With tensions between the country and Russia, there has been concern at the ability of the industry to continue to deliver IT services. Customers include many German automotive sector clients and European banks.
The group, which has adopted the name the BrainBasket Foundation is supported by the government, in particular from Pavlo Sheremeta, Minister of Economic Development and Trade for Ukraine. However, its list of supporters does not seem to include companies like giant IBA, known to be close to the previous president who was favoured by Moscow.
Last week's launch event also received heavyweight support, literally, with Ukrainian politician and former world boxing heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (above) in attendance. Global companies supporting the Foundation include Microsoft and Cisco.
