Extreme offers new network analysis tool

Extreme Networks has brought out a product designed to provide analysis of networks, aimed at increasing user and channel knowledge of users and apps. Purview is built on patented ASIC technology. Purview provides visibility into application use across the network. Purview captures network data and then aggregates, analyses, correlates, characterises, and finally reports; providing insight into how and why systems and users perform.

Purview works with with Extreme Networks solutions, or networks from any other Ethernet switching vendor, UK&I head Steve Johnson tells IT Europa. He is particularly excited by this product, he says, which gives a view of systems use, beyond the app and into business availability, which tools are being used by which groups of users, including their social media activity, giving a new way to do network management and priorities resources and policy. “It enables channels and providers to become consultants on policies,” he says. The network is a strategic investment and the CIO needs to be able to analyse it and provide insights.

It seems ot be a part of Extreme's further push into the data centre, where performance and availability are so fundamental, although the cost of the network itself stays relatively low, he says. Purview will be supported by Extreme as it extends its use through channels, with education and support. He can also see its use in managed services where Extreme is seeing new channels emerge, often from existing partners.
