SonicWall has unveiled its Generation 8 firewall range alongside an expanded cyber warranty programme and deeper integration with co-managed services, in a move aimed squarely at managed service providers.
The nine new firewall models are designed to be delivered as part of a unified platform that combines hardware, cloud-native management, Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) capabilities, and optional 24/7 monitoring through the SonicSentry co-managed security service.
A key update in Gen 8 is the expansion of the vendor’s cyber warranty, offered in partnership with Cysurance. All Gen 7 and newer firewalls sold and registered after 1 November 2024 now qualify for coverage of certain costs and reimbursements for business losses if a firewall breach disrupts operations, provided specific conditions are met. The warranty now comes with new tiers, higher coverage limits, and the option to bundle with cyber insurance of up to $1 million, excluding certain jurisdictions such as Japan, South Africa and Saudi Arabia.
Edward Cohen, EVP of corporate development at SonicWall, said the new approach “integrates the warranty into a broader security service framework, with new tiers, higher coverage limits, and bundled services for MSP/MSSP delivery. Gen 7 introduced the concept. Gen 8 and the new Cysurance phase 2 partnership expand the warranty’s value, integrate it into managed services, and link it with insurance options.”
For MSPs, SonicWall is positioning the Gen 8 release as a way to build recurring revenue through either self-managed bundles or fully co-managed services, all available on monthly billing with no minimum terms. Jason Carter, chief revenue officer, said the updates give partners “every advantage to grow margins, differentiate offerings, and meet their customers’ evolving needs.”
