Data centres on the rise in Poland

The new investments in data centres in Poland continue to grow as data centres are expected to become the crucial segment of the ICT market in Poland, says the recent study by consultancy PMR.

Although a number of new investment projects was much delayed in 2013, the key players will continue to implement their projects throughout 2014, it says.

Additionally, over the last couple of years there has been a growing number of investments in data centres both at the technology parks and in special economic zones which are subsidised by the EU.

Every year there is more new space being delivered to the market of the average size between 4,000 to 7,000 square metres, PMR says. And over the last five years the value of market basic services offered at data centres has more than doubled.

Recently, there is a few projects of new data centres facilities in Poland being located in a close proximity to a capital city, Warsaw. This includes a recently opened IBM’s facility, which provides both collocation services and office space, and another one at the value of PLN83m (€19.8m) which will be utilised by telecoms Polkomtel/Vodafone and Cyfrowy Polsat. Additionally, a communications carrier and provider of integrated services GTS has renovated its data centre near Warsaw.

PMR has also mentioned a rising number of the investments in Torun, in central Poland, and Katowice, in the south of the country.

Katowice saw the entry of 3S which opened its second server centre there and a second data centre which is a part of a bigger project co-financed by the EU.

DataSpace, owned by a big data and cloud solutions specialist Data Invest, has also set up its new data centre in Torun. This facility offers up to 3,000 square metres of total gross area, of which 1,100 sq metres is designed to accommodate servers and 400 sq metres to provide collocation services.

Also, last year Exea Data Centre opened its facility at the technology park in Torun which boasts a gross capacity of more than 4,700 square metres.
