Asseco Poland acquires security partner

IT services heavyweight Asseco Poland has acquired a 69.01% stake in its partner ComCERT, a specialist in cyber security services, including security monitoring and ICT threat detection.

With the deal, Asseco aims to expand and strengthen its competence in this area. It is already a strong provider of IT services to the banking, insurance and other industries. ComCERT experts analyse areas vulnerable to hacking attacks in customers' systems, supports them during an incident and analyses the state of systems after an event. The company also helps develop clients' security operations centre (SOC) teams, actively helping to maintain a high level of network security and expanding competence.

“We are expanding our expertise in cyber security consulting and strengthening our position in this market segment,” said Zdzisław Wiater, director of international organisations and solutions for the security sector division at Asseco Poland.

The ComCERT team will be supported by Asseco specialists' skills in the design and implementation of third party security solutions, said Asseco Poland. The value of the acquisition has not been disclosed.

“We were the first company providing CERT (computer emergency response team) services in Poland not connected with any telecoms operator,” said Tomasz Chlebowski, president of the management board at ComCERT. “After joining the Asseco Group we will be able to reach a larger number of clients and implement even more demanding projects.”

In March this year, Asseco Data Systems (ADS), in cooperation with Asseco Poland and ComCERT, launched "CyberDefenseAfrica" in Togo, the first institution responsible for cyber security in that country. The joint venture between ADS and the Togolese government starts this year and will see investment in security defences worth €14m.
