The European Commission has said it will clear Avnet's bid to buy rival distributor Bell Microproducts for $252m (€200m).

The deal, the largest in its history, is intended to strengthen Avnet's presence in Latin American markets and expand the company's storage capabilities, says Avnet. The company also hopes to revive sales of products such as hard drives after recent difficulties owing to the global economic recession.
