Dassault Systemes has announced its intent to buy Vancouver-based software solutions specialist for mining industry, Gemcom Software International, for around $360m (€271m).

The transaction is expected to be closed in July 2012. Gemcom, who hires 360 people, has offices in Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia, among others.

“With the acquisition of Gemcom our objective is to model and stimulate our planet, improving predictability, efficiency and sustainability within the Natural Resources industry and beyond. To support this goal, we have created a new brand, GEOVIA. And this announcement is a significant step towards fulfilling our purpose of providing 3D experiences for imagining innovations to harmonise products, nature and life” says President and CEO, Dessault Systemes Bernard Charles.

After the closing of the transaction, Gemcom’s employees and management will remain in place and continue serving the mining industry.

“This acquisition will benefit Gemcom’s customer base, bringing support and enterprise collaboration” adds Rick Moignard, who will become the CEO of the newly created GEOVIA brand, after completion of the Gemcom acquisition.
